James Hardie is committed to helping you build better, more sustainable projects by working with building science experts to understand the role our products play in the building envelope. The following information will help you determine how James Hardie® products contribute toward the overall performance of the building.
While there are many green guideline programs in the building industry, all share the goal of building a more efficient, healthier building environment for those who live or work there. The USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) has created national guidelines (the LEED Program) from the collective experience of leading personnel in the green building movement.
While products alone do not provide points, James Hardie projects may contribute to the following LEED NC points: MR 5.1 and 5.2 (Regional Materials) and MR 4.1 and 4.2 (Recycled Content).
For programs requiring documentation of Recycled Content or Regional Materials, call James Hardie Technical Services at 1-866-4HARDIE. Provide the project zip code and materials specified and you will be provided a letter documenting James Hardie's contributions.
While all green programs share a common goal of more efficient, healthier building, they do not always measure every way a product can contribute toward a better structure. Durability, non-combustibility, less need for paint — all of these are important factors in green building.

James Hardie® siding products with ColorPlus® technology - a unified composition of advanced fiber-cement and baked-on pigment - combine the highest quality raw materials, proprietary manufacturing process and equipment, revolutionary paint technology and innovative color process that gives a superior siding solution for any multifamily or commercial project.
James Hardie - the largest producer of fiber-cement siding in North America - is the only siding manufacturer that controls its product from the initial mixing of the cement to final painting in one facility. To ensure that every board meets James Hardie's high standards, over 41 quality assurance checks are made throughout the manufacturing process and each batch of siding is also checked at three outside testing facilities to monitor long-term durability.
The James Hardie ColorPlus technology finish also represents a revolutionary breakthrough. The paint used in the process was made especially for James Hardie siding after more than four years in development and over 2,000 formulas tested. The end result is a durable, low-maintenance finish that lasts up to two times longer, has 30% better fade resistance and adheres up to 400% better than any other paint available.
And, James Hardie backs its ColorPlus technology finish with a 15-year warranty that covers both paint and labor.²
All of this means that when you choose James Hardie siding products with ColorPlus technology:
You have the assurance you've selected the most durable, low-maintenance, highest-quality siding product possible.
